Club Tomodachi

Club Tomodachi Flyer

Tomodachi (to mo da chi) means friend in Japanese. Club Tomodachi is Creative Approach Development Center’s anime group for students ages 14-19 to make new friends while celebrating all things anime. We meet Wednesdays from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm and spend each week doing arts and crafts, playing games, learning about Japanese sub-cultures related to manga, anime, cosplay, and gaming, and of course watching anime.

Yes, to cover the costs of materials, snacks, anime subscriptions, and special guests/events, there is a fee of $12 a week or $40 a month. Dues must be paid before attending for the week.

Who can participate?

Club Tomodachi is a group for students ages 14-19 who have an interest in anime, manga, cosplaying, and gaming. You do not have to be an expert to attend but should have an interest in the content. We welcome all abilities but ask interested students to complete an intake interview to make sure the types of activities are appropriate and to see if additional supports will be needed. Also, Club Tomodachi is intended to be a place for students with similar interests to socialize and make new friends, but it is not a social group that will spend a lot of time teaching how to socialize and group etiquette.

What type of anime will be shown?

The best way to describe the anime that will be shown is rated G, PG, and PG-13. Every anime will be pre-screened before the group viewing to make sure it is appropriate, but many will contain fight scenes and some may have mild language.

What happens during the meetings?

Each week we will share updates about any new anime, manga, or games we discovered in between meetings. Each month has a different theme and the members will complete arts and craft projects related to the theme followed by snacks and the viewing of an anime related to the theme.

How will the club keep safe during the pandemic?

Club members will be asked to wear a mask while we are meeting and to socially distance themselves. Members who have tested positive, been exposed to someone who tested positive, or who have any of the symptoms will be asked to not attend and return after their quarantine period is completed.
