Behavior Management Strategies

 Description: Identify common behavioral challenges and learn evidence-based approaches for managing them in individuals with IDD and MH.


Length: 1.5 hours


Objectives:

  • Identify common behavioral challenges faced by individuals with IDD and MH and their underlying causes.
  • Learn evidence-based approaches for managing challenging behaviors, emphasizing positive reinforcement and proactive interventions.

Proactive Behavior Strategies for IDD and MH

Description: Learn how to identify early warning signs of behavioral challenges and implement proactive strategies to reduce their occurrence.


Length: 2 hours


Objectives:

  • Understand the importance of proactive behavior planning in preventing escalation.
  • Explore practical tools for identifying triggers and developing individualized behavior plans.
  • Learn strategies to foster positive environments that encourage desired behaviors.

Building Positive Reinforcement Systems

Description: Dive into the principles of positive reinforcement and discover how to create systems that motivate and sustain behavior change.


Length: 2 hours


Objectives:

  • Learn how to design effective reinforcement schedules tailored to individuals with IDD and MH.
  • Identify appropriate reinforcers and how to deliver them consistently for maximum impact.
  • Explore case studies and examples to understand how reinforcement systems can transform behavior.

Crisis Prevention and De-escalation Techniques

 Description: Equip your team with tools to handle behavioral crises effectively while maintaining safety and dignity.


Length: 1.5 hours


Objectives:

  • Understand the escalation cycle and how to intervene at each stage.
  • Learn evidence-based de-escalation strategies for individuals with IDD and MH.
  • Develop personalized crisis intervention plans to minimize future incidents.

Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) Essentials

 Description: Learn how to conduct a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) to uncover the root causes of challenging behaviors and develop effective intervention strategies.


Length: 2.5 hours


Objectives:

  • Understand the purpose and components of an FBA.
  • Gain skills to identify behavioral functions and how they inform intervention design.
  • Practice creating behavior intervention plans (BIPs) based on FBA findings.

Collaborative Behavior Support Planning

Description: Discover how to involve interdisciplinary teams, families, and caregivers in creating cohesive and effective behavior support plans.


Length: 1.5 hours


Objectives:

  • Learn strategies for collaborating with team members to develop and implement behavior plans.
  • Understand the role of communication and shared goals in successful behavior management.
  • Explore ways to engage families and caregivers in reinforcing positive behaviors.

Enhancing Communication to Reduce Behavioral Challenges

Description: Address the role of communication challenges in behavioral issues and learn how to teach and support alternative communication methods.


Length: 2  hours


Objectives:

  • Recognize the link between communication difficulties and challenging behaviors.
  • Explore tools like visual aids, AAC devices, and social stories to improve communication.
  • Learn strategies for teaching replacement behaviors that fulfill the same function as the challenging behavior.
