Led by Dr. Zipporah Levi-Shackleford, PBSF—commonly referred to as Dr. Z—CADC provides behavior support services designed just for YOU. Life can throw some curveballs, and sometimes we need extra support to navigate them. But here’s the thing: that support isn’t one-size-fits-all. Dr. Z and her team take the time to truly understand your needs and craft a Positive Behavior Support (PBS) plan that works specifically for you. The CADC approach is all about finding balance and ensuring the strategies fit your life.

What Are Positive Behavior Supports (PBS)?
Positive Behavior Support (PBS) is an evidence-based approach focused on understanding the reasons behind behaviors and addressing them in a way that respects the individual’s dignity and needs. Unlike Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), which often emphasizes compliance and reinforcement, PBS prioritizes creating supportive environments, teaching alternative skills, and fostering independence. PBS is person-centered, emphasizing collaboration and the development of strategies that work for the individual without being coercive or overly controlling.
Why PBS Instead of ABA?
PBS is rooted in values of respect, equity, and dignity. It moves away from traditional behavior management practices that can sometimes feel punitive or overly rigid. Instead, PBS:
• Focuses on understanding behavior as a form of communication.
• Builds skills to help individuals meet their needs in positive ways.
• Adapts the environment and support systems to reduce challenges.
• Emphasizes long-term quality of life improvements over short-term compliance.

Behavior is Communication
At CADC, we believe that behavior is a form of communication. Dr. Z’s approach focuses on understanding what the behavior is saying, so we can help you or the person you are supporting get the help they need. Every action has a purpose, and by uncovering the "why," we create meaningful solutions that make a difference.

The Whole-Person Approach
Dr. Z goes beyond just addressing behavior—she considers the whole person, including physical health, environment, mental health, and the support system around them. Whether it’s navigating challenges like transitions, communication struggles, or self-organization, our team takes a comprehensive view to find the best path forward. We’ll also help build life skills like self-care and maintaining a routine, ensuring long-term success and independence.
