The Case of the Missing Marquess (Enola Holmes # 1) by Nancy Springer

Meet Enola Holmes, teenaged girl turned detective and the younger sister to Sherlock Holmes.

When Enola Holmes, sister to the detective Sherlock Holmes, discovers her mother has disappeared, she quickly embarks on a journey to London in search of her. But nothing can prepare her for what awaits. Because when she arrives, she finds herself involved in kidnapping a young marquess, fleeing murderous villains, and trying to elude her shrewd older brothers—all while attempting to piece together clues to her mother’s strange disappearance. Amid all the mayhem, will Enola be able to decode the necessary clues and find her mother?

Series of Unfortunate Events # 1 The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket

Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire are intelligent children. They are charming and resourceful and have pleasant facial features. Unfortunately, they are exceptionally unlucky. In the first two books alone, the three youngsters encounter a greedy and repulsive villain, itchy clothing, a disastrous fire, a plot to steal their fortune, a lumpy bed, a deadly serpent, a large brass reading lamp, a long knife, and a terrible odor.

We Need Volunteers!

The Next Chapter Book Club welcomes all levels of readers. Some who are still working on their skills will need a reading buddy. To help everyone feel comfortable, we are recruiting volunteers to serve as Reading Buddies. If you want to learn more, register for our upcoming Volunteer Orientation on June 20th, 2024.
